High Quality Canvas Printing

Please note we are not currently offering completed stretch Canvas Prints. They have quickly gone out of fashion over the last few years and have decided it was no longer worth keeping the additional equipment used in the workshop as it took up lots of space for how little canvas orders we were now getting. We may add them again in the future if the popularity increases again, but for the time being we have decided to stop offering them. We can however still print your images to canvas for you to coat and stretch yourself or take to your local picture framer, please contact us for a printing quote.

For our high quality canvas printing we print onto Fotospeed’s Renaissance Cotton Matt Canvas at 350gsm. This is a Polly/Cotton with natural white point base. Renaissance canvas offers wonderfully sharp images and excellent colour detail. All canvases are printed using genuine Canon Lucia Pro 12 inks. Once printed each Canvas is given at least 24 hours to dry before it is coated. Once fully dry the canvas then has a laminate melted into the surface of the canvas using a Hotpress Vacuum Press or coated with a print varnish. The Hotpress gives a quality appearance to the completed canvas, but also means it is much more durable. It can then  be wiped clean, it won’t scratch and there won’t be any issues of cracking where the ink comes apart from the fibres as it’s stretched around the edges of the stretcher bars.

We can also offer printing on Hahnemuhle Daguerre 400gsm Canvas upon request.

Stretcher Bars

Our standard stretcher bars are 19mm high by 35mm wide. All stretcher bars come completed with wedges in the back. Canvas naturally loses tension over time, by having stretcher bars with wedges should this happen you simply tap the wedges in slightly with a hammer and this will add the tension back to the canvas.

Option 1 Standard Wrap
A standard Wrap will take your existing image and wrap it around the sides of the stretchers bars. This is the most popular option, but you have to be aware if you have anything close to the edge of the frame this will wrap around the sides so is not ideal for all images.

Option 2 Solid Sides
With this option your image dimensions on the front will remain the same and we can add a solid white or black border for the sides of the stretcher bars.

Option 3 Mirrored Image
This option will take pixels from the edge of the image and mirror these around the sides so that the front stays the same with your image.  We can send over a preview so you can see how this option will look.

Option 4 Side Wrap
This option works in a similar way to the mirrored image, however it is not a perfect reflection, but will add similar colours pixels in a subtle way to the edge which will be slightly blurred to enhance the sides and keep the main image intact.
